Tower power

I was on the Spider Web net on 14.347 MHz last week when I heard someone mention a tower for $200. I didn’t catch any details beyond that but I made the comment that I’d drive a long distance to pick up a tower at that price.

Then I got what I asked for. Turns out there’s a ham here in Missouri (about 100 South of me) with 10 sections of Rohn 25 tower for only $75 apiece. These retail for about $270 apiece. I couldn’t let this deal pass me by. At first, I considered a 40 ft. tower. Four sections would only be $300. Then, as I fantasized about all the fun I’d have with my new tower, I decided to go to 50 ft. That leave 5 sections still available.

Now when am I ever going to find a deal like this on tower sections?

What happens if a storm bends one and it needs to be replaced?

If I put up the tower at my current house, I’ll just have to take it down and leave a section in the ground.

Considering all of the above, I said, “to hell with it” and committed to all 10 sections. This way, I can put up a tower now and not have to wait until I move. I’ll have spare sections in case they’re needed in the future.

It’s gonna be a few weeks to get the money together and I recently had back sugery so I won’t be erecting the tower for at least a couple of months but I can’t hardly wait.
