The turnout was great! Lots of tables full of goodies to be had.

My prize find today was an HT I’ve had my eye on for a while now, the Motorola XPR 7550 HT. It’s a UHF radio with DMR. It’s got a beautiful display and some pretty cool features. Not to mention Motorola power, quality, and durability.

I see this radio selling for $350+ depending on condition and all that comes with it. I got what seems like a new battery, an extra batter that I know IS new, charging base, and programming cable, all for $250. It’s in mint condition!

I knew the next thing I would want was a hotspot. I found a guy with some of those too. I bought his last one, a Pi-Star. I need to get a few accessories to get this thing programmed and ready to roll so hopefully they’ll arrive early tomorrow.

I was able to use the same Mototrbo CPS that I use on the XPR-series radios I have.

I also got some fantstic deals on connectors, power resistors, heat-sinks, and some beutiful, high-quality meters. I was hoping to find some pre-cut coax jumpers (6 ft) but no one had them so I had to hit up Amazon for that.

My 5-year-old son came with me. He was practically the star of the show. The hams with tables were so nice to him as he walked around inspecting everything he could take in. He’s very sociable too, even talked on the radio in the club’s comm. trailer. Some guys were so kind to him, they actually gave him things (like a computer monitor, an old radio, an adapter). He had almost as much fun as his dad.

The KC hams are a very friendly bunch. I met with a few that I’ve met over the air or in-person for other ham-radio transactions. The guy who sold me the HT had given me some old computers a few months ago. Little did I know that he was getting ready to part with the radio I’d been drooling over.

I look forward to HamBash 2026 and any other hamfests that happen between now and then.

So the Raytown Amateur Radio Club took over this annual event from the Shriner’s Amateur Radio Club.
